STRAWBERRY SONG いちごの唄
PRODUCTION NOTES
An original story by popular screenwriter Yoshikazu Okada (“Be With You”, ’04 & “The 8-Year Engagement”, ‘17), is inspired by a hit song from popular Japanese band, Ging Nang BOYZ. Okada, in fact, co-wrote the original story with the band’s vocalist and actor, Kazunobu Mineta (“Boys on the Run”, “The Cat in Their Arms”), adapting it for the screen. It is directed by Shintaro Sugawara, who takes up the megaphone for his first feature-length film after directing numerous television drama hits. The film costars another professional vocalist in Yutaro Furutachi (“Until I Meet September’s Love”) from the band “The SALOVERS” and Shizuka Ishibashi as the heroine, who rose to fame with her role in “The Tokyo Night Sky Is Always The Densest Shade of Blue” (’17), directed by Yuya Ishii.
STORY
Kota and his best friend, Shinji, once spent their teen years worshipping a girl named Chika, whom they had dubbed “Goddess of the Milky Way.” When one day Chika fell prey to a traffic accident, Shinji sacrificed his own life to save hers. Kota, who now works in a frozen foods factory, finds himself reunited with Chika ten years later. The two vow to meet on the anniversary of Shinji’s death each year in hopes of coping with the loss they’ve never gotten over. But with each meeting, Kota’s feelings for Chika grow.
