PRODUCTION NOTES

A maverick director, acclaimed at film festivals both domestically and internationally, presents his long-awaited commercial debut!
The director is Norihiro Niwatsukino, who gained widespread attention when tickets for his film “Suffering of Ninko” sold out instantly at the Vancouver International Film Festival, prompting additional screenings. The film was also acclaimed at numerous festivals, including IFF Rotterdam. This project marks his long-awaited commercial debut and is a horror film for which the director has written the original screenplay.

A survival horror that kicks off in an extreme situation!
The concept was born from a desire to create a horror film that skips the tedious and drawn-out openings often found in modern horror films, where the real fear doesn’t begin until much later. Instead, we aim to make a film where the tension grips the audience from the very first scene. The story begins the moment, or immediately after, the protagonist comes face-to-face with supernatural beings, ghosts, or monsters — our goal is to create a horror film that plunges the viewer into an extreme situation right from the beginning.

STORY

"Look Away, and You Die."
A survival creature horror where characters find themselves lost in a forest owned by a cult, fleeing from the monstrous "Magai-gami," creatures that mimic gods and Buddhas. The nightmare has already begun!

In the vast private land known as Mikagami Forest, university student Kanon encounters a monstrous creature called a "Magai-gami." This occurs during a test of courage with her friends. According the one who brought up this forest as a test-of-courage spot, the Magai-gami has a peculiar behavior: “When you encounter it, you must never look away. As long as it’s being watched, it behaves like a god, but if you look away, it will attack.” Following the rule of “never look away,” Kanon searches for her missing friends and tries to escape the forest. However, one by one, her friends fall victim to the Magai-gami, and Kanon finds herself trapped between two of them— Kegare-senju, a mass of countless white hands with a Buddha-like face, and Shikome-bosatsu, a grotesque female monster with the bloated face of a drowned corpse and a sinister smile in the guise of a bodhisattva…
