PRODUCTION NOTES

This follow-up to Takuya Uchiyama’s 2016 Pia Film Festival Audience Award-winning film "Vanitas" is the result of collaboration with co-star Gaku Hosokawa, whose story this is based on.
Winning the 2016 PFF Audience Award with his debut film "Vanitas," Takuya Uchiyama, recently known for the music video for King Gnu's "The Hole" and his mid-length film "Blue Forest" (2018), has garnered industry attention. His much-awaited feature film, "Sasaki in My Mind", cast a wide variety of talent, from up-and-coming stars to seasoned actors, including Kisetsu Fujiwara ("Remain in Twilight"('21)) in the leading role, Gaku Hosokawa, Minori Hagiwara, Shintaro Yuya, Yusaku Mori, Sakurako Konishi, Yumi Kawai, Satoru Iguchi (King Gnu), Takuji Suzuki and Nijiro Murakami.

STORY

Unfolding the past and present story of would-be actor Yuji, his larger-than-life classmate Sasaki and their friends, the film looks head-on at adolescent sparkle and the pathos of bygone days.
Yuji, a struggling actor who still lives with his ex-girlfriend and earns money through a banal job at a local factory, is approached by a friend to take a role in an upcoming play he has written. After a chance encounter with an old high school friend, Yuji looks back on their past and the friendship with their mutual pal Sasaki. A troubled teen, Sasaki was always the centre of attention. And Yuji realizes that Sasaki may have played a more significant part in his life than he previously thought.
